Like it is said, if you want something to end right you should always start in the right way. That is exactly what we do when we gather prior information about anything we want to start with. For some it is in form of a formal training or education in some established school of video production, while for others its purely on an experiential standpoint. However a few quick techniques to enhance video production are always useful at hand. These are usually useful for any kind of work with the camera as a major chunk of the video production stage is about getting the right footage and making it as un editable as possible or at least to ensure that majority of shots do not get deleted in the editing stage.
The first step to get things right is focus. Most of the professional cameras have a ring which is called the focus ring which has to be adjusted manually. The camera needs to be zoomed in as tightly as possible on the subject to let go of all the unnecessary background effects. The adjustment is usually done by rotating the ring anticlockwise and clockwise as well for closer or distance focus. However it should be kept in mind that the quality of the picture remains good i.e. it remains sharp and defined. There are various challenges that are faced with the focus specially when there is too much of light coming through the lens or very low light. It becomes more difficult in case of the latter as more light cannot be added.
There are other issues with the back light during video production. This common difficulty arises when the subject to be shot has a very strong backlight making the subject look very dark. In such cases the iris comes to aid which sometimes automatically adjusts to the brightness. In other cases the iris is adjusted manually to suit the needs of a good exposure. Some other interesting elements of video shoot are video camera filters which are either transparent or translucent. They are effective in solving the problems of light adjustment and are successful in rectifying it to some extent.
There is a common practice in film production to have specific names and references for some popular shots. The types are assigned based on the framing as well as the picture composition of the subject. The exact terminology differs in the context of the production environment. Yet the primarily logic and principles remain the same. A very common scene on the video production site is the high stand on which the camera is attached. This stand or the tripod helps in providing a support to the camera and also increase the steadiness of a shot when it is being taken from a height or for a longer duration. The efficiency of the shot depends upon how smoothly the camera is rotated on the head of the tripod. With all these preliminary tips to handle a camera well, any video production is good to go.
